Before I get to the fun photos from this past weekend celebrating my favorite twins’ 3rd birthday, I can’t help but reflect on my photography journey at this point.

Let’s rewind back to about three years ago. Three years ago, my wife convinced me to pursue a passion of mine by buying my first DSLR, a Canon T3. I walked around my neighborhood a few times shooting anything and everything I could find. I shot some pretty interesting pictures, but I mostly shot just garbage. I did not know how to work the camera very well outside of Automatic mode.

When Katy went into labor, I took this as a perfect opportunity to put my photography skills to the test. Afterall, what could be more special to a family than the birth of their children?? It came with plenty of technical challenges such as low lighting, a small setting, and not knowing how to address these issues in-camera.

I love these photos, and this was the moment that showed me that my photography can transcend the day and time with what’s captured in the frame, because three years later, these photos still bring me right back to this day and time – the excitement in the air, the love for these two twins, the nervousness as new parents finally meet their children, and so on and so forth.

It’s tough to believe that it’s already been three years and these two are celebrating their third birthday. We decided to let them run loose in their backyard and to see what kind of candid photos we could capture.
